Walk through Brisbane’s oldest cultivated green space at the edge of the CBD.
Before these grounds became formal botanic gardens, part of the site was used to grow crops for the early penal settlement. A botanic reserve was declared in 1855, and curator Walter Hill helped establish the collection that followed. Some trees planted in the nineteenth century still stand today.

Look for Weeping Fig Avenue; some of its great trees date back to plantings in the 1870s.
