Cross the Walter Taylor Bridge
Indooroopilly; Chelmer
Map →✧
Cross one of Brisbane's most distinctive bridges — complete with apartments built into its towers.
The Walter Taylor Bridge is unlike any other bridge in Brisbane. Opened in 1936, its great concrete towers once contained apartments occupied by the bridge's toll collectors and their families. Today it still carries traffic across the Brisbane River between Indooroopilly and Chelmer, while its unusual towers make it one of the city's most recognisable suburban landmarks.
Crossing it on foot gives you time to notice the details that disappear when you drive across — the towers, the river below and the neighbouring rail and pedestrian bridges that have gradually turned this part of Indooroopilly into a small history of Brisbane river crossings.

Good to know
Walk across rather than drive if you want to properly see the bridge and its towers.
