Cross the William Jolly Bridge

Brisbane City; South Brisbane

Cross the river on Brisbane's great cream-coloured arch bridge.

The William Jolly Bridge has been carrying Brisbane across the river since 1932. Its huge concrete-clad steel arches belong to an era when Brisbane was beginning to build the infrastructure of a larger modern city. Walking across reveals details easily missed from a car and gives you views toward the CBD, Kurilpa Point and the newer bridges that now share this stretch of river. It is a useful reminder that Brisbane's bridges form a timeline as much as a transport network.
