Find the giant needle that survived Expo 88 and became part of the South Brisbane skyline.
The Skyneedle is a survivor from World Expo 88, the event that transformed South Brisbane and helped set the stage for modern South Bank. The 88-metre tower was originally intended to disappear after the Expo, but Brisbane hairdresser and businessman Stefan Ackerie bought it and saved it.
It now rises unexpectedly above South Brisbane, a wonderfully oversized relic of the six months in 1988 when Brisbane invited the world over and began imagining itself as a different kind of city.

Good to know
You can spot the Skyneedle from several surrounding streets — seeing it as part of the neighbourhood is half the fun.
